  • Jesus Mourns for His Friend

Jesus Mourns for His Friend May 24, 2026 Jesus Mourns for His Friend Sermon Series: Standalone Download PDF Matthew 14:1-13 1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard about the fame of Jesus, 2 and he said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist. He has been raised from the dead; that is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” 3 For Herod had seized John and bound him and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, 4 because John had been saying to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” 5 And though he wanted to put him to death, he feared the people, because they held him to be a prophet. 6 But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company and pleased Herod, 7 so that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she might ask. 8 Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter.” 9 And the king was sorry, but because of his oaths and his guests he commanded it to be given. 10 He sent and had John beheaded in the prison, 11 and his head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came and took the body and buried it, and they went and told Jesus. 13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. Main Idea JESUS CHRIST WILL NEVER LET DEATH HAVE THE FINAL WORD Outline THE NEWS OF JESUS SPREADS, BUT PEOPLE RESPOND DIFFERENTLY (VV1–2) JOHN THE BAPTIST GAVE HIS LIFE FOR WHAT WAS TRUE (VV3–11) JESUS MOURNED, BUT HE DID NOT LOSE HOPE (VV12–13) Discussion Questions THE NEWS OF JESUS SPREADS, BUT PEOPLE RESPOND DIFFERENTLY (VV1–2) Why do you think Herod reacted to the news of Jesus with fear and insecurity instead of faith? How do our fears, guilt, or assumptions sometimes shape the way we view Jesus? Why is the question “Who is Jesus?” still the most important question a person can answer? What are some different ways people respond to Jesus today? JOHN THE BAPTIST GAVE HIS LIFE FOR WHAT WAS TRUE (VV3–11) Why was John willing to speak truth even when it became dangerous? What does this passage teach us about courage and faithfulness? How can fear of people or consequences tempt us to stay silent about truth? Where do you see pressure today to avoid difficult truths in order to maintain comfort or approval? What stood out to you about the phrase: “He must increase, but I must decrease”? What areas of your life still compete with Jesus for prominence and control? JESUS MOURNED, BUT HE DID NOT LOSE HOPE (VV12–13) What stands out to you about Jesus withdrawing to mourn after hearing about John’s death? Why is it important that Christians do not ignore grief or pretend suffering does not hurt? What is the difference between grieving with hope and grieving without hope? How does Jesus’ response to loss help us understand the heart of God? What encouragement do you find in the truth that Jesus never lets death have the final word? How does the resurrection of Jesus reshape the way Christians face tragedy, suffering, or death? Where in your life right now do you most need the reminder that Jesus is still working, even in pain or uncertainty? Looking Forward What is one area of grief, fear, disappointment, or uncertainty where you need to intentionally trust that Jesus still has the final word? Prayer Focus Pray for… Confidence that Jesus is who He says He is Honesty about our sin and deeper dependence on God’s grace Courage to stand for truth with humility and faithfulness Hearts that desire for Christ to increase and ourselves to decrease Comfort for those walking through grief, loss, or suffering Hope that remains steady even in painful circumstances Trust that God is still working when life feels confusing or unfair Strength to mourn honestly while holding onto eternal hope Faith in the resurrection and victory of Jesus over sin and death Lives that point others to Christ through both our words and our response to suffering

  • Pray With Us | Peace Church

Pray With Us "And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us" 1 John 5:14 Daniel & Amber Greegor Ethnos 360 Mexico is home to sixty-three indigenous languages with over 350 dialects, many with no access to a Bible. The Greegor’s are establishing a group of believers who can show them Christ's love and disciple them to walk with him. Their goal is to plant a self-sustaining, indigenous church amongst the least-reached people group in rural Mexico. You can find Peace's Meal Ministry Link Here to help support Peace Church families in need Praying for the Peace Church body Peace Church Praying Community, here is a new section, to be praying for the whole church community where we will focus on one key aspect of who God has called us to be as a church. This week we want to remind you that we are: Gospel Centered One of the primary characteristics of Peace Church is that we are Gospel Centered. Let’s join together and pray this week for people to be drawn to hear God’s Word and for their hearts to be softened to receive the hope we have in Christ. That people would understand that salvation is not by works (us being “good enough”) but by Grace through Faith in Jesus’ work on the cross. Pray that each member of Peace would be given opportunity during the week to share their faith with others; to communicate the hope they have in Christ, and give testimony to God’s work in their lives by the fruit of the Spirit as they interact with neighbors, coworkers and family members. Today's New or Time-Sensitive Update Gina Weaver May 22 Update Update from Christopher and Gina’s Weaver. Doctors say she will be in the ICU for weeks to months. (Original Request May 20) Gina Weaver who is in the ICU on oxygen can't seem to get oxygen levels to stay up without it, and any kind of exertion like sitting up in bed causes her blood ox to plummet into the 80s and even into the 70s. No treatment plan is in place yet for her current symptoms as she continues fighting cancer. Christopher is asking for any all prayer warriors to join them. Gina has expressed she is scared but yesterday she was ready to go home to her Maker. Pray for a stabilization of her O2 levels, for healing in her lungs and God's peace and comfort for the whole family. • I Have Not Come To Bring Peace, But A Sword

I Have Not Come To Bring Peace, But A Sword May 10, 2026 I Have Not Come To Bring Peace, But A Sword Sermon Series: Lines in the Sand Download PDF Matthew 10:34-39 34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. 37 Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Main Idea THE LINE IN THE SAND IS THIS… JESUS DRAWS THE LINE IN THE SAND WITH TRUTH Outline TRUTH FORCES DISRUPTION (V34) TRUTH FORCES DIVISION (VV35–37) TRUTH FORCES DECISIONS (VV38–39) Discussion Questions TRUTH FORCES DISRUPTION (V34) Why does Jesus say He came not to bring peace, but a sword? What is the difference between false peace and true peace rooted in truth? How can truth feel disruptive or even painful when it exposes lies or deception in our lives? Why do people often resist truth when it challenges their assumptions, worldview, or comfort? Where in your life is Jesus currently disrupting unhealthy patterns, false beliefs, or misplaced priorities? How can disruption actually become an act of God’s grace in our lives? TRUTH FORCES DIVISION (VV35–37) Why does Jesus warn that following Him may create division even within families? How does our culture often encourage peace at any cost, even at the expense of truth? What does Jesus mean when He says we must love Him more than father, mother, son, or daughter? How does loving God most actually increase our ability to love others well? Where are you tempted to compromise truth in order to avoid conflict, rejection, or tension? How can Christians hold firmly to truth while still responding with humility and love? TRUTH FORCES DECISIONS (VV38–39) What does it practically mean to “take up your cross and follow” Jesus? How does this passage challenge a shallow or comfortable version of Christianity? Why is following Jesus more than simply admiring His teachings? What stands out to you most about the description of Jesus carrying and enduring the cross? How does Jesus’ willingness to suffer for us shape our willingness to follow Him faithfully? What does it mean that “whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it”? What areas of your life are hardest to fully surrender to Christ? How does the resurrection of Jesus give hope and confidence to endure hardship and obedience? Looking Forward Where is Jesus confronting you with truth right now, and what is one specific step you will take this week to follow Him more faithfully, even if it requires discomfort, surrender, or change? Prayer Focus Pray for… Hearts that love truth more than comfort or approval Wisdom to recognize false peace that ignores truth Courage to allow God’s truth to disrupt and transform our lives Humility to listen before becoming offended or defensive Strength to stand firm in truth even when relationships become difficult Love for Jesus that is greater than every earthly attachment Faith to take up our cross daily and follow Christ faithfully Repentance from believing lies or clinging to idols Gratitude for Jesus willingly suffering and dying for our salvation Confidence in the resurrection and the eternal life found only in Christ Lives marked by both truth and love as we follow Jesus faithfully
