  • News to His Mother

News to His Mother December 1, 2024 News to His Mother Sermon Series: Go Tell It On The Mountain Download PDF Luke 1:26-38 Main Idea Mary's reaction to the news of her pregnancy shows us how the faithful should respond to Christmas! Outline 1. She contemplates it (vv26-28) 2. She questions it Pre-Questions When you receive unexpected news, how do you typically react? Do you seek understanding, respond with immediate action, or take time to reflect? What does faith mean to you in the context of facing situations that seem impossible or beyond your control? Discussion Questions Mary was “greatly troubled” and pondered the angel’s greeting. How do you approach situations that are confusing or unsettling? Do you take time to reflect, seek counsel, or pray? Reflect on Proverbs 3:5-6, which advises trusting in the Lord and not leaning on our own understanding. How can this passage guide us when we face unexpected news? Mary questioned the angel, asking, “How will this be?” How does seeking understanding demonstrate faith rather than doubt? Consider James 1:5, which encourages asking God for wisdom. How can we apply this in our lives when we lack understanding? Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant… May your word to me be fulfilled.” What does her response teach us about obedience and submission to God’s will? Reflect on Romans 12:1, which calls us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice. How can we live out this call in our daily lives? The angel told Mary that “no word from God will ever fail.” How does this assurance impact your faith and trust in God’s promises? Share a personal experience where trusting in God’s promise led to a positive outcome, even if the path was uncertain.

From Plan To Purpose April 13, 2025 From Plan To Purpose Sermon Series: The Reversal Download PDF John 12:12-19 Main Idea The gospel doesn’t give us the hero we want, but the hero we need. Outline 1) The Crowd 2) The Hero 3) Us Pre-Questions When you hear the phrase “from plan to purpose,” what personal experiences or thoughts come to mind? How has the concept of moving from your own plans to embracing God’s purpose played a role in your spiritual journey? Discussion Questions The Crowd (John 12:12-13) The crowd welcomed Jesus with palm branches, expecting a political savior. How do our expectations of Jesus sometimes differ from who He truly is? In what ways can we align our expectations with the true nature and mission of Christ? The Hero (John 12:14-15) Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey, symbolizing peace rather than conquest. How does this choice reflect the kind of hero Jesus is? What does this teach us about the nature of God’s purpose compared to human plans? Us (John 12:16-19) The disciples did not understand these things at first but later realized their significance. How have you experienced moments where God’s purpose became clear only in hindsight? How can we cultivate trust in God’s purpose, even when it doesn’t align with our immediate plans? Application Questions Identify areas in your life where your personal plans may be overshadowing God’s purpose. What steps can you take to surrender those plans to Him? Why? Can you think of a time when you faced temptation and depended on God for strength? What happened? Discussion Questions Read Matthew 6:13a. How does this passage clarify that God does not tempt us, but that temptation comes from our own desires? How does this shape the way we understand this prayer? Read 1 Corinthians 10:12-13. What promises does Paul give here about God’s faithfulness in temptation? How can these promises encourage us to pray for God’s help in moments of weakness? Read Hebrews 4:14-16. How does Jesus’ experience of being tempted make Him the perfect High Priest to help us in our struggles? What role does prayer play in preparing us for temptation before it comes? How can praying this line daily help us stay spiritually alert? Theological Reflection This prayer acknowledges that we are weak and need God’s strength to endure. Temptation is not just about external trials but about the desires of our own hearts. Why is humility essential if we are to stand firm against temptation? Find an accountability partner in your group who can pray with you and check in regularly about how you are resisting temptation. Closing Prompt How would your spiritual life change if you truly believed God is both willing and able to deliver you in times of temptation? Where do you need to lean on His strength this week?
