Matthew 6:9a

Main Idea

“What is prayer?”

Outline

Pre-Questions

How would you describe the current health of your prayer life—thriving, dry, routine, intimate, inconsistent? Has there ever been a time in your life when prayer felt especially real or especially difficult?

Discussion Questions

How might structured prayers like the Lord’s Prayer or using passages found in Psalms be a healthy way to guide prayer? (examples Psalm 23, 42)

Jesus doesn’t leave prayer completely open-ended—He gives us a pattern. Why is that significant? Why is the overall structure(Father’s will, then us) of the Lord’s prayer in of itself significant? Should this guide how we pray?

When you think about your current prayer life, is it more shaped by God’s will or your personal needs? Why do you think that is?

If God answered every one of your prayers this week, would His name be hallowed more widely, or would your life just be more comfortable?

Application:
Where do you sense God inviting you to grow in prayer—not just in frequency, but in honesty, vulnerability, and submitting to His will first?
What might our prayer life look like this week if we apply what Jesus exemplified in the Lord's prayer?
