John 14:1-7
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Discussion Questions
JESUS CHRIST ALONE IS OUR PEACE WITH GOD (VV1–2)
1. Jesus begins by saying, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me” (v1). What is troubling the disciples in this moment, and why does Jesus link their peace to belief in Jesus, not just belief in God?
2. Jesus says, “In my Father's house are many rooms … I go to prepare a place for you” (v2). How does this promise offer real peace to people who are anxious about the future?
3. Our culture often says every path offers its own kind of peace. How is the peace Jesus offers here different from a peace built on open-endedness or “whatever works for you”?
4. Where do you look for peace in things other than a relationship with Jesus? (career, control, comparison to others)
5. What would it look like to actually believe Jesus's words in verse 1, not just agree with them?
JESUS CHRIST ALONE IS OUR PROMISE OF GOD (V3)
1. Jesus promises, “I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (v3). What does this reveal about how the disciples' future is tied to Jesus's own presence, not just Jesus's teaching?
2. This promise was made to comfort the disciples before Jesus's death. How does knowing Jesus is faithful to his promises shape how you trust Jesus's other claims, including the claim in verse 6?
3. Many religions offer principles, rituals, or self-effort as a path forward. How is a kept promise from a person different from a set of religious instructions?
4. What promise of Jesus do you need to hold onto this week, especially if your faith feels shaky or you're facing uncertainty?
JESUS CHRIST ALONE IS OUR PATH TO GOD (VV4–7)
1. Thomas asks, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” (v5). Jesus answers, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (v6). Why does Jesus give an exclusive answer instead of directions or general advice?
2. Jesus doesn't offer advice or one option among many — Jesus claims to be the way itself. What is the difference between a teacher who points to truth and one who claims to be the truth?
3. Our culture often says “diversity of religion is our strength,” treating all spiritual paths as equally valid. How does Jesus's claim in verse 6 challenge that idea?
4. Many people have a cultural or historical idea of Jesus rather than knowing what Jesus actually said. After reading Jesus's words in this passage again, consider: does the Jesus you know match the Jesus who is speaking here?
5. If Jesus's claim to be the only way is true, what does that mean for how we treat people of other faiths (both in belief and practice)?
Looking Forward
Jesus doesn't offer advice or options. Jesus claims to be the way, the truth, and the life, and the only way to the Father. How can we better know Jesus through Jesus's own words, rather than relying on a cultural idea of who Jesus is?
